KUBO WON'T LET ME BE INVISIBLE - 2019-2023 (Japan)/2022 - continuing (US), available either in print or via Shueisha's Manga Plus service and Viz Media's Shonen Jump website
Amount read: 3 volumes of 10 currently available in English (12 total in Japanese)
Official description: From Manga Plus: "First year high schooler Junta Shiraishi is a mob character who goes unnoticed even when he's standing right next to you. But his classmate, "heroine-level beauty" Kubo, always notices him and is there to tease him. Anyone can become special to someone, but it might be a little too early to call these feelings "love." Perhaps this story is still two-steps from being a romantic comedy--let's call it a sweet comedy where a background character becomes visible!"

Weeb rating: 6/10. If you don't know how a Japanese high school works, or what kind of food goes into a bento, or why a small child might be running an errand on their own and nobody blinks...well, the answer to any of those questions isn't hard to find, but you're not going to get an explanation here.

Ass rating: 2/10. The spiciest it's gotten in three volumes was Shiraishi picking up an adult magazine (and not looking through it), and Kubo's big sister flashing her cleavage at him while drunk (much to the embarrassment of pretty much everyone, including Shiraishi).

Shit rating: 2/10. It's not exactly looking to be New and Different, so you might find it somewhat stereotypical, but it's adorably sweet.

Violence rating: 1/10. Occasionally Shiraishi trips over his own feet, or walks into a lamp post. I don't even remember a nose bleed.

Crack rating: 3/10, just based on the premise - Shiraishi isn't literally invisible, but he gets overlooked often enough that he might as well be.

Actual opinion: So you know how some romance series are the kind of slow burn where you want to whomp the characters over the head with HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU MISSING THIS (I'm looking at you, KIMI NO TODOKE), and some romance series are the kind of slow burn where you can just relax into it and let the cute babies bumble around and figure themselves out?

Yeah. This is absolutely the second kind so far. It's low-conflict fluff, where the main characters are just living their lives and you can trust they'll eventually figure things out. Shiraishi's isn't angsty about the fact that nobody except his family and Kubo can seem to notice him on the regular: it's just a fact of life that he has to live around. Likewise, Kubo's got her own set of friends, and life goals, and isn't solely focused around Shiraishi. By the end of the third volume, they've only just started to figure out that

There is an anime adaptation, which aired at the beginning of this year! Sadly, it's on HI-DIVE, so I'll have to jump through some hoops to watch it. Boo, I say. I need more soft fluff in my life.

I love this general format for reviews! Works super well for anime too. Can I borrow it?

I haven't actually watched a pure SoL anime in forever, though.
