USAGI DROP: 30-year-old man winds up adopting the 6-year-old illegitimate daughter of his grandfather. I am a sucker for a certain kind of 'found family' trope, especially the 'I don't know why I care for/trust you, but we both feel it, so we're family now' variety, and that's the vibe I get here. He's a grown adult, a Japanese salaryman (complete with the usual implications of staying all hours at work to get ahead), and suddenly there's this kid, and nobody else in the family wants her, and screw it he's gonna take care of her.
It's all kinds of adorable. Watched three episodes so far, stopped only because there's a mere 11 episodes total and we want to space them out. Also the art is gorgeous - it tends toward this beautiful watercolor look that makes everything look soft and warm.
KOKORO CONNECT: suddenly, body-swap! No, seriously, that's the plot, per the first episode. Supposedly we get some kind of explanation in the second episode, but so far we have not bothered to watch that one. It's...possibly interesting? But did not grab us the way Usagi Drop did. Stays in the queue for now.
ACE ATTORNEY: I admit it, I watched it mostly because a couple of y'all (hi,
akatonbo and
pantswarrior!) love the first couple games and posted about them in such a way that I was curious. The anime, well...the entire first episode struck me as being for people who did love the game, and wanted to see it animated. I could pretty much pick out game mechanics.
So far, 'meh.' Half of the main cast (as per spoilers and, y'know, the opening credits) haven't appeared yet, so I feel rather let down. Where are my (subtextually) gay lawyers? Stays in the queue for now, but it's on probation.
MIRACLE TRAIN: Dear lord the crack. And not just in the premise (although 'train that miraculously appears to ladies in distress, staffed by mysterious masked Conductor and the personification of five stations on the Oedo line, and helps said ladies out of their distress' is pretty cracky to start with). It's also that I suspect that this series was sponsored by the Oedo line or something, because the last time the characters made a point out of sharing so many Useful Facts, I was watching an actual documentary, not a crack anime about personifications of train stations. "This anime was brought to you by the letters O, and T, and the number 23!"
It's fun, though - at least it seems to understand that it's utterly silly, notwithstanding all the Useful Facts it's sharing. And hey, if ever I get to Tokyo, I'll know the last few stations of the Oedo line and what's at them! ;-D Enjoying this one, definitely keeping it in the queue.
(I'm not sure if I should hope for another bad one. All these 'eh, they don't totally suck, keep 'em in the queue anyway' series are not helping me clear out the list.)

Date: 2017-01-09 02:29 pm (UTC)(My friend Kay (who watches a lot more anime than I do) recommended it, on the Pretty Boy Train Stations and sheer crack basis. Kay's tastes and mine don't always overlap - she has a much higher tolerance for Annoying Main Characters if there's a good side character to interest her - but she's also been the person to hook me on some of my favorite series, so I listen to her.)
