jennaria: Toph thinking, with caption: but what are your thoughts on yaoi? (Toph is my homegirl)

My thoughts on:

TV! We are still watching HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, but it's kind of hate-watching, because pretty much everybody is a terrible human being and/or makes terrible life choices. But we can't stop watching. Augh.

Also still watching CASTLE (finally the wedding!), SLEEPY HOLLOW (I kind of dislike Katrina, even now that she's more active and theoretically more developed, but I hate Hawley. He is a charisma-void nuisance who is taking away airtime from characters I actually enjoy, and he should have been allowed to die several episodes ago. I can see what they're aiming for - kind of a Han Solo sort of character - but they miss, and miss epically), THE FLASH (kind of a guilty pleasure, not gonna lie), FOREVER (have moved this beyond 'guilty pleasure' and into 'shameless enjoyment' - also, the professional dominatrix from the most recent episode should be a recurring character y/y) and, God help me, MASTER CHEF JUNIOR (but Gordon Ramsey is so adorable with the children! Also, pie).

Movies! Got BIG EDEN from Netflix. It is implausible in the way of so many romantic comedies, but I do not care. There is a love triangle handled in a way that does not mean everyone has to forget they have a brain! And both heroes are adorable (I did mention this is a gay romantic comedy, yes?). I did cry at one bit, but then I apparently cry more easily than I used to, so that doesn't necessarily mean much.

Actually bought MALEFICENT. If all you want out of a movie is a retelling of a fairy tale such that the villain gets her due (and also kind of gets to be the hero), then this fills the bill. Also I apparently have a thing for Romantic Love Is Not The Only Kind Of True Love (see also: Frozen). There are several things which clearly the movie does not want you to think too hard about them, but I still overall enjoyed it.

Went to see BIG HERO 6 in the theaters. It's kind of very much what you'd expect from 'if Disney did a Marvel movie,' but I still enjoyed it a lot. (Expected Major Plot Twist, just from what I'd seen in the trailers. Did not expect the climax's turning point. Tanya had the opposite reaction, go figure.) :cannot explain further without spoilers:

Radio! I have been listening to mystery shows from the Golden Age of Radio, on account of my work involves a lot of spreadsheets, which get super boring super quickly. Currently I have exhausted all the mystery shows I know to be interested in, and switched to the Lone Ranger. Unfortunately, the thing with the Lone Ranger is that it's got an elephant labeled NATIVE AMERICAN ISSUES sitting in the corner, and it's not very good at dodging, on account of one of the main characters is Native American (of an unnamed tribe, and who is able to speak any NA language required by the plot).

Mostly I can enjoy them anyway. But 1940s American pop culture is not like 2014 American pop culture, so sometimes I will be listening to, say, the Green Hornet and be all like DEAR GOD READ UP ON SOCIOLOGY PLEASE. And this is before we get into gender issues, or race issues (part 2, 3, 4, etcetera), or class issues. I repeat: augh. But they're so addictive!
