Blogathon approaches!

So! Blogathon is rapidly approaching, by which I mean that it’s one month until that fun-filled day of sleep deprivation (for certain values of ‘fun-filled’). Apparently there’s nothing official this year (again), but Team Mariposa will be going for it again! thesilentpoet is joining me, and hatfullofstars has tentatively agreed to join us in insanity, rather than staying on the pit crew side. Kay has agreed to pit crew (inasmuch as she went and had Other Commitments that stand in the way of 24 hours straight blogging), and Ziggy Stardust, King of Adorable Corgis, will be standing in for Mariposa as the fuzzy mascot of the weekend. ;-)

In any case: as always, I'll be blogging for the Nature Conservancy, and this year the theme is Anime - specifically, Supposed Anime Classics!

A while ago, I'd run across one of those lists - you know the ones, 'how many of these have you seen/read,' with the subtext that you couldn't call yourself a real otaku unless you'd seen them all. As occasionally happens, I took that as a challenge. So, below find the list in question. Bold are the series I've seen at least one episode of: italics are series where I've read the manga/light novel, but haven't watched the anime. If I've already gone into detail (probably over on XamJapan) about the series and what I think of it, then I have linked where appropriate.

I have to put in a good word for GetBackers, Kyou Kara Maou, and Pokemon. For god's sake, though, avoid Earthian like the very plague, or at least only watch the first episode. If you just watch the first one, you might escape coming to loathe the series and everyone involved in it with a fiery, implacable hatred.

Fortunately, sylverice2 has Getbackers and Kyou Kara Maou, and we have a Plow Through Lots Of Anime weekend scheduled in a couple weeks (as opposed to my private Plow Through Lots Of Anime weekend that I'm doing right now - seven anime down, four more to go!).

Will have to go hunting Pokemon (...no fannish injoke intended). Do you have any recommendations as to where to start? Because I will confess to a distrust of the series, mostly because it seems to be everywhere and I'm contrary like that.

I'm sort of a Pokemon traditionalist - I like the first couple of seasons. The theme song will be stuck in your head for life, though, be warned.
