Short Review: Dracula
Oct. 22nd, 2023 02:42 pmSo Wife and I went to the ballet this month, to see DRACULA.
Expectations: Gothic! Pretty music! A different take on the novel!
What I got: ...well, two out of three isn't bad, even if the score iscobbled together from an arrangement of several pieces by Franz Liszt, rather than a single composition. Arguably three out of three, if you're willing to accept 'glanced through the novel, picked out of a couple of names and one setting, discarded the rest' as a different take! (And here's a trailer for, if not the actual ballet we saw, at least the actual version of DRACULA - or if you want a behind-the-scenes on the original version, Playbill has you covered.)
( Slightly more detail behind the cut, if y'all are curious. )
Overall: the plot is silly, but let's face it, how often do you go to the ballet for the plot? The dancing and the aesthetics were both on point (no pun intended). A very enjoyable afternoon. Now if I could only find the pattern for that cloak of Dracula's.
