...see, last year while I was out of work, I hit up my local library fairly often (as you do), and accumulated lots and lots of books. Problem was, I kind of forgot to return said books until they were kind of ridiculously overdue. Like, "Thia looked up her fines online and was so terrified by the total that she didn't dare go back to said local library for fear of the librarians pointing and hissing" overdue. (I sent the books back via
thesilentpoet, who volunteers there anyway.)
However, it's been a year. And Blogathon is coming up, which means (if one is the sort to plan ahead, which I...try to be) deciding what I'm blogging about. Last year was Nifty Things. The year before was flash fiction.
This year, I decided, I want to do mystery novels written by women, thus allowing me to get my mystery geek on and snark about gender issues. The problem, of course, is that I don't own 49 mystery novels written by women. (I may own that many mysteries in general, on account of my father's even more of a mystery geek than I am, but he leans more toward male authors.) Thus: to the library I went.
The librarians did not, in fact, point and hiss. They did raise their eyebrows over the size of the fine, but since I was there, checkbook and pen in hand, they even graciously cut the fine by quite a bit. And I came home with a bunch of mysteries I haven't read yet. Yay.
