Wife wound up temporarily upgrading Hulu so we could watch just the men's figure skating short program, as opposed to Events We Just Don't Care About on regular NBC. Thoughts:
1) Now I kinda want to re-watch Yuri!! On Ice, only with a fuckton more understanding about the scores. Like, yes it is totally possible to be a world-class skater and skate a world-class program and still score under 100 points on your short program (hello there Adam Rippon).
2) I am not going in to work today (for fun reasons), which is why we stayed up way later than was good for us. WHY ARE THE BEST SKATERS NOT ON UNTIL MIDNIGHT. Stupid time zones.
3) So, Yuzuru Hanyu! Way to live up to the hype, wow. Finished his skate and stared down the judges like, damn straight I won gold last time.
4) Oh, Nathan Chen. Oh bebe. Even NBC's usually catty commentators couldn't bear to claw at him last night.
5) After Nathan's scores, we turned off the computer and went to sleep, mostly because of point #2 above. Naturally I woke up before my alarm. Which usually goes off at 6. ...someday I will convince my body clock to cut that shit out, but today is clearly not that day.

Date: 2018-02-16 07:31 pm (UTC)Shoma Uno was adorable again, he also scored over a 100, which, unlike the commentators, I completely expected him to score lower than Yuzuru because cultural reasons Sparkle Twins either don't know or don't care to know.
If I remember right (our cable service died completely for a bit right before the last two skaters) it was Yuzuru, the Spaniard whose name I've already forgotten again, Shoma, and then Jin-something from China, all with scores over 100. At least I got to see the Israeli skater from the team event do his short program this time! Though apparently he didn't do it as well, sigh. Nathan ended up in 17th, so while he gets to do a freeskate, it's just for the sake of it at this point. I feel bad for him, but he's still just a baby, he'll have other chances. I really think having to go right after Yuzuru was the thing that killed him, poor dear.
