In which Thia fails at romance

So I'm doing chores this morning, as you do of a Saturday, and Mental Juke-box decides to play You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet. And she looked at me with her big brown eyes...

Wait, I think to myself. Wife does not have big brown eyes. I remember having this conversation with her. She has, uh, blue eyes.

...I think.

WAIT WHAT COLOR ARE MY WIFE'S EYES

WHY DON'T I REMEMBER

Cue me trotting into the other room, where Wife is peacefully watching Outlander, to peer at her eyes. She pauses her show and looks at me quizzically. "What's the problem?"

I explain, and she grins, and says, "Go ahead and look, honey."

The answer is that her eyes are cheating. They are hazel, which means the answer is Any Damn Color They Feel Like. Blue-gray, green-brown, with any of those being predominant depending. So it's not exactly my fault that I can't remember. On the other hand, we've been married for four years and some! You would think I would remember a detail like that!

(She did not take offense. I still feel sorta silly.)

On one of my first handful of dates with boycritter, I had to ask him what color his eyes were, because I couldn't figure it out.

It turns out they're blue, but it's that shade of blue that can look really grey or almost a light brown depending on lighting and what he's wearing, which was why I was stumped. He was super-confused why I was asking, too, because wasn't it obvious? NOPE. Cheater magic color-changing eyes...

If it's ANY consolation, I was in my relationship for nearly four years with my own wife when I mentioned something about brown hair and brown eyes, and she looked at me, all surprise and shock, and said "My eyes are GREY!"

Sure enough, they were, and I had never noticed/remembered.
