40 Days of Anime: Day 3

03 - which anime made you laugh the hardest?

I don't watch much 'comedy' as a genre - not even outside of anime. Way too much either hits my embarrassment squick, or else the cast are assholes. Or both! (See also: OSOMATSU-SAN and EXCEL SAGA, both of which I saw recommendations for as OMG FUNNIEST THING EVER, and no. I managed all of one episode each, and then noped out hard.) I'm more likely to laugh at manga.

But after rummaging through my past catalog, I found a couple OVAs that did make me laugh! DRAGON-HALF (heroine is half-dragon! unfortunately, her love is a dragon hunter! whoops, nothing for it but to enter an enormous tournament for reasons that I don't remember and may not have been explained), and SHINESMAN (loving parody of super-sentai e.g. Power Rangers - I've only seen the dubbed version, which is glorious).

Shinesman is the beeeeeest. The manga is so much better, though. More identity porn, more voice actor jokes, more storylines for minor characters, and also much slashier.

Unfortunately, I can't find the manga anywhere but dubious manga-sharing sites. :-/ If you have any suggestions, I am all ears!

(Mostly, I just like that - so many parodies, I get the impression that they don't actually *like* the thing they're parodying. Shinesman, I feel like they *did*.)

The manga hasn't been scanlated, except part of the first volume. :( Back in the day I had friends who were working on some good summaries, and the ones they had done are still on the Wayback Machine, but they had only done some of the volumes. I wish I had the sort of contacts to get a reliable group working on it; I own all the manga and would happily scan it all as long as I knew it'd get done eventually.

And the mangaka for Shinesman is also well known as a doujinshika for other sentai type series, so she's definitely a fangirl. :)
